Chiropractic for the Whole Family

Should my whole Family come in for Chiropractic care? Do you work on Children?

When infants and children come out of our treatment rooms, we are often asked, “Do the children get adjusted too? What did they come in for?” These are good questions and it gives us the opportunity to explain that infants and children have nervous systems the same as adults. They are susceptible to the same stresses and traumas that we are. Since they are very flexible and don’t have old injuries that have healed wrong, it seems those falls and stresses don’t affect them. The fact is children sustain injuries just as adults and need wellness care like the rest of us (see our “Wellness” page).

As we grow into teenagers, with growth spurts, sports injuries and other “minor” accidents, small injuries are collected and the nervous system compromised if the spine heals incorrectly. We often see kids as young as five or six with hips or shoulders that are unlevel, or the head tilted slightly to one side. Scoliosis is screened for at 12 to 14 years old but many of these problems are visible to a lesser degree when we are very young.

We are seeing in Chiropractic research and in our Fountain Valley office specifically, that children who get checked regularly (and receive very low force adjustments when needed) grow straighter and are sick less often than children who do not receive care. This is because we remove the interference in the nerve impulse/mental impulse/innate intelligence between the brain and body and enable the entire body to work better.

How does the entire body work better? Remember the entire body is controlled by the brain and nervous system. This includes the heart, lungs, digestive organs, immune system and literally all the other cells and tissues of the body. If any of the vital nerve impulses are cut off between the brain and body, you get a state of dis-ease or dys-function meaning the body is not functioning optimally. As an example, if the nervous system is compromised at the upper neck (by a spinal misalignment), it is like a kink in a garden hose by where it attaches to the faucet handle. Some of the water is still getting past where the kink is, but there is less water pressure throughout the length of the hose. If the nerve energy is pinched up by the skull, there’s less nerve flow to the rest of the body.

With this in mind, we recommend the whole family receive Chiropractic care, not only when they have symptoms, but on a regular basis to prevent problems and stay healthy.
